CURRENT CLIENT INITIATIVES*

Technology Company (Milan, Italy)

This client has been with PLI since March, 2007, and is a manufacturer of a special and patented technology integral to three new products:

  1. A temperature monitoring system for use in salt or freshwater fish tanks
  2. A unit that dehumidifies, heats, and cools the cabins of boats below surface without the need for compressors
  3. A unit for changing the temperature in a mattress through the circulation of liquid using thermoelectronics

After a thorough review of this company and its product line, PLI recommended that the first of the products be offered to the most respected aquarium manufacturers in the United States for exclusive importation under a unique licensing agreement. Since this aquarium heater/chiller accurately keeps temperatures in tanks at precise levels, the growth of corals as well as the procreation of fish is enhanced. This is an issue that needed to be captured by the press.

The second technology is in the process of being presented to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer; in this case, boat manufacturers) with the help of a PR firm specializing in the marine industry. It was interesting to note that in addition to power and sailboats needing dehumidification and efficient temperature controls, the engine rooms of larger watercraft were candidates for their use. For these vessels, humidity has proved damaging to the instrumentation.

The mattress temperature product will be further developed after a choice is made among three prospective candidates, competing to become the development and marketing partners for this client within the United States.

Inventor and Manufacturer (Moscow, Russia)

This client has come to PLI with three unusual and very diverse products:

  1. A unit using patented technology to prevent drivers from falling asleep at the wheel. It will be presented to truck manufacturers and airlines before it is taken to the car makers and to the aftermarket.
  2. A unit (using similar technology to the first product) designed to enhance the sleep process. Rather than being put into test by the medical profession with a focus on sleeping disorders, this product might eventually be used as a premium or incentive by one of the largest U.S. mattress manufacturers. The potential to use this form of energy is limitless.
  3. A diagnostic tool to diagnose tuberculosis. Within 45 minutes (as opposed to days required by existing tests), specific locations of TB signs can be identified in any part of the lung. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been contacted and supports the presentation of the product to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). But to save time and money, PLI will also commence a dialog with two of the largest, and (undisputedly) among the most respected, manufacturers and global distributors of medical equipment.

Manufacturer (Moscow, Russia)

Trains, airplanes and mining equipment all use batteries as an alternative source of power. This new PLI client holds worldwide patents on both the hardware and software that enables a battery to be recharged without damage to the battery as is common. A built-in diagnostic process additionally identifies a specific battery or batteries in the series indicating if they are too damaged to be recharged.

After training from the manufacturer in both Moscow and the United States, plans for distribution comprise presentations to Amtrak, General Electric, and airline companies, as well as to manufacturers of mining equipment. PLI has suggested either a licensing agreement or a joint venture with a U.S. partner, as opposed to the manufacturer setting up its own U.S. presence and offices. In this case, instead of taking the time to structure a new entity to distribute directly to the end user, PLI will forge relationships with companies that currently service the above classes of trade, and offer them exclusive distribution rights.

Filtered Water Machine Manufacturer (Tuscany, Italy)

Filtered water - chilled plain, chilled sparkling, room temperature - all from one machine? Yes! In fact, this could become the next hottest kitchen consumer product. But the route here will be to first obtain endorsements by restaurateurs, as a means to get acceptance, before taking the product to the consumer. Further, pricing issues has the PLI team looking at alternative manufacturing options as well. Distribution will be offered to those with a strong distribution presence for appliances.

It is of note that this product is being introduced at a time when water continues to be the drink of choice, although the issue of purity is being scrutinized and, in some cases, even criticized.
